Grotten Brown Ale
Originally the work of Pierre Celis, this beer was intended to be aged in caves, served once it had ripened to perfection. The name "Grotten" means "cave" in Flemish, underscoring it's underground origins.
Recently, cave-aging has been discontinued, but nevertheless this is a terrific beer for aging. Deep brown with a tan foam, deep brown in color and full-flavored with hints of anise and black pepper, Grotten Brown is a very complex, satisfying beer.

St. Bernardus, best known for it's excellent
Abbey Ales,
was for many years the brewing arm of the
Trappist Monastery St. Sixtus in Westvleteren.
In 1992, this agreement ended and St. Bernardus
set out to establish itself as a world-class
brewery in its own right.
15 years later, St. Bernardus has a thriving business and is expanding across the globe. Widely regarded as one of the jewels of the Belgian brewing world, each St. Bernardus beer is a masterpiece of complexity and flavor, fully rewarding the adventurous drinker.

Grotten Flemish Ale
Like the Grotten Brown, Grotten Flemish Ale is the work of Pierre Celis, who worked for many years to bring these two beers to light.
Spicy and bold, Grottten Flemish Ale boasts flavor well beyond its modest 7.5% alcohol. Dusky blond in color with an intensely herbal, spicy nose, this is a beer that rewards careful tasting. Celis was inspired by flavors he found in Mexican food while living in Austin, Texas, and an unnamed herb makes an appearance here. If you can guess what the herb is, let us know because Pierre won't tell us!
